What is Lao New Year? Lao New Year lasts for 3 days (14-16 April) and is a time of endless fun and celebration. Watch multiple parades, build sand stupas, attend a beauty pageant, wash a Buddha statue, and join the largest water fight in Asia!
Pack your swimsuit because it will be a wet one for Lao New Year! Your guide will show you around Luang Prabang, describing the importance of this festival for Buddhism and the Lao people. Ascend Phousi Mountain for a 360° view of the town, visit the National Palace Museum to relive the past, visit bustling markets, build your own sand stupa and visit Kuang Si waterfalls!

Upon landing at the airport, picked up by your guide and explore Luang Prabang on foot as many streets are closed down during this period for festivities. But be prepared to get wet during your visit! Depending on when you arrive, you may get to see the Elephant Procession along the main road in town.
Your next stop will be Mount Phousi, Luang Prabang’s sacred hill and a popular spot for sunsets over Mekong River. After enjoying the 360° view of the town, you will descend and visit the National Palace Museum, which was originally the residence of the former King.
You will then be transferred to your hotel for a good night’s rest.
Rise up early in the morning to explore the bustling market along the main street of town, which is at its largest during the Phi Mai period. Your guide will introduce you to local food to try and textiles to purchase if you choose.
Return back to your hotel for breakfast before heading out to participate in the ceremony of watering the famous Buddha image at certain temples downtown. Your guide will take you to a local lunch spot for some authentic Lao food.
In the afternoon, head out to the beach along the Mekong River and build your own sand stupa that will bring you good luck and fortune, which your guide will be happy to explain. Then visit the famous Wat Xiengthong temple at the tip of the Luang Prabang peninsula.
Return to your hotel to unwind or go out and join the evening festivities!

Begin the day by a private vehicle transfer to the spectacular Tad Kuang Si Waterfall, featuring three tiers leading to a 50-metre drop into spectacular azure pools. You will also visit the Hmong and Khamu villages in the area to learn about their traditions and different ways of life.
Return back to town to check out of your hotel and be transferred to the airport for departure!
